What's Pixelization?

Japanese law requires that genitals in videos and magazines be obscured, or pixelized. Japan being traditionally partial to secrecy and veiled eroticism rather than full-on exposure, photographers and video makers have been capitalizing on this preference by the general public and creating photos/movies which relied more on camera technique and intriguing themes than the genitals themselves. For this reason, all kinds of ways to blur out the private parts of actors/actresses have been devised over the years, and pixelization is by far the most frequently used method today. Viewers, for their part, have responded favorably to it as well and embraced this style of editing as an expression of uniquely Japanese esthetics.
